I'd often wondered why WT never attacked the Mormon Church the way it attacked the Catholic Church or other Protestants. They have too much in common.

Tech 49: My Tripping Point, Part 2
by Tech49 inafter reading some of your other posts and experiences, especially regarding the elder's school, i am reminded of part 2 of my experience down the rabbit hole.. the last elder's school i attended was in 2011. i remember vividly the 3 day event.
i remember vividly being bored out of my mind!.
as has been stated by others, the hours of monotone counsel and examples and experiences were continually beating on your brain with the usual stuff:.

Thanks for sharing. JWs so readily forget that the greatest commandment is LOVE.

exJW Psychology 102--How to Ask a Question When Questions Aren't Allowed
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite innow that enough time has passed and i've moved away, i think i'm overdue to share some of the stories from my fade.
i've mentioned some of this before, but i think it deserves its own thread.. we all would like to be able to freely ask questions about jw beliefs and get our family and friends to really think about certain questions.
however, when you're a baptized jw, you really can't ask any good questions or you'll get the "apostate" label slapped on you!

Ann: I wouldn't say it's exactly "spur of the moment." I got so much interesting information from this forum, jwfacts, etc., and then mentally practiced how the conversations might go. Since I was still attending the meetings for a couple years after "waking up," that gave me plenty of time to prepare.
And when bringing these things up to JWs, I was actually surprised at how blindsided they were by the questions and conversations. JWs are so trained to only address the questions at the bottom of the page or looking into the Reasoning book, that I thought some would have a brain-explosion when they actually had to THINK about what to say. The conversations did take unexpected turns, which just gave me more insight into how to steer future conversations.

Oops, sorry I didn't respond earlier AA.
"Billy, how would you describe the perfect JW Kangaroo Court (Judical Committe)?"
I show up to the JC confessing that I fornicated. Since they would need to know what happened, I'd start from the very beginning. When things started to get interesting, I'd pull Barbi and Ken out of my pocket to show exactly where we touched each other and what happened as we took off each other clothes. Then I'd pull out some more Barbis and Kens to show what happened when her roommates got home. I would leave out no details.
Then I'd confess to another sin: lying. None of that exciting stuff happened because I'm too busy with school for the types of orgies that they fantasize about.
"In Business one of the first things your taught to survive is to be a "duck"."
Typically, the elders are more accustomed to dealing with "chickens", people that are afraid of them and the backroom interrogation. Looking back to the backroom meeting that I endured (it wasn't a JC, but very similar), I wish that I would have been mentally prepared to keep the meeting dragging for 12 hours or longer. Although I would have "ducked" many of their questions, I would have continued with more and more questions about the allegations, meanings of words, and scriptural procedures.

Wow Frosty, that story is 100% JW. What a bunch of weasels.
Label, I suspect that the elders are going to try to question you in such a way that they'll have evidence AFTER the meeting, so they can start a JC.
"The goon said that a jc committee is a "fact finding mission" to see if the alligations are true."
I think I'd start my own "fact finding mission" to find out who has leveled these charges. I'd start by asking any of the JWs that I still talk to if they spoke to the elders about these 3 specific charges.

I suspect that the story at the hall was that you didn't go because you were "opposed." The fact of the matter was that you were working and getting time off wasn't an option because you cannot afford to lose the job. I think your in-laws and the local JWs should be informed and ashamed of how they are promoting laziness.

How Do I Reply?
by Stubborn Disbeliever inso my grandma just wrote me out of the blue today.
i haven't written her in about a month, maybe two.
all i did was send 2 or 3 pictures of the kids in reply to a message about not having any recent pictures of them.

I have no idea what to suggest that you say. I can only speak from my perspective if my pregnant wife had received such a message. And I would write my message to grandpa.

Apostate: From 279 Facebook friends to 81 overnight... thanks MOM!
by sosoconfused inthe drama continues, i log on to facebook this morning and notice that i have about 20 some odd personal messages from people calling me an apostate to they will return to me when i return to jehovah.. all of this based upon my brother informing others that i have "apostate thoughts".
my mother also encourage long-time famil friends to "unfriend" me because i have taken my stand on the side of satan... wow.
don't you just love this international brotherhood.

Most of the dubs I had on FB have deactivated their accounts. If they unfriended me, they'd have to send me a message, because I wouldn't notice.
I'm shocked at what they said in their messages. Don't they realize that those can be printed or forwarded?

Oh my. I would most certainly talk to the elders. If your wife hasn't worked since she's gotten baptized and your 22yo son doesn't have enough ambition to get a job, you need to ask them what kind of influence they are having on your family.
And as I mentioned, state very clearly to the elders that nonJWs see what is going on and are unimpressed with the influence that Watchtower has had on your family.
I suspect that your wife has been painting a very different picture for the congregation. No doubt the elders are clueless and are giving her terrible advice. I'd come and speak to the BoE in your behalf, but I can tell that you're in a different time zone.
